A long walk home from Juffair...!

Have you ever wondered how long it would take to walk from inner Juffair to Hidd? Well wonder no more...yours truly embarked on an epic trek last nite that started at 6 pm and ended just after 9. I suppose someone with a little less weight to carry and a lot more fitness under their belt might have done it a bit quicker...you think?...but it took me just over 3 hours. Why might you ask did I take on such a foot aching walk? Well for two reasons really...first off I was seriously ticked off by...

My youngest daughter does not have a passport at the ripe old age of 14. Previously she was on her fathers passport as a baby but when he had his renewed...she was old enough to have her own. Up until now I never had need to make her one but now the need has arrived and what I thought was going to be a fairly straight forward transaction has instead tuned into headache of brain squeezing proportions. It would seem that her father is the only one allowed by law to make one for her...why? you...

Ever have one of those days where you wonder if some sort of conspiracy has been plotted against you by man and nature alike? A day when, from the moment you open your eyes and the cat jumps on your chest causing all necessary oxygen to leave your body....you realize its probably gonna be a bad day and to dive back under the covers is your only means of escape? A day when you bang your toe on the way to the bathroom(mother...f**ck!) drop your toothbrush on the floor(gross!)...notice a few more...

Anyone Know Exactly What the Minister of Healths Job Is?

I was under the impression that ministers are there to aid people...and that certain people are appointed the position because they are qualified for the job. Add to that the King himself going on about everyone working together to encourage small businesses in Bahrain to get a foothold and a hand out when they need it to prosper etc. So imagine when my partner approached the Minister of Health this past week to ask him for his patronage of a Health and Beauty exhibition we are planning for...

This is my first attempt at adding a pic to my blog...lets hope Ive figured out the small print. For my first pic post Im using these two bright sparks and the result of their "lets take a short cut"....Bahrainis love short cuts. This is out in Arad towards Amwaj Islands...now I dont know much about driving in the desert but I do know, after watching these guys for a good 20 minutes, a few things I didnt know before... 1. Gunning the engine when your trapped in sand may send out and impressive...

Spontaneous Survey of Mindless Idiots

Found myself sitting in the car waiting for my friend to finish her business and was casually watching cars going by...when I realized it was a golden opportunity to do a quick survey on the average driving activities of citizens of Hidd/Arad. I was parked in a prime location for it too...in a parking lot next to the road...so customers of Midway have to slow down to turn or wait for other motorists to get out of the way...so I could get a fairly good luck at the Occupational Hazards operating...

A New Deadly Game Being Played in the Games Room

I live in Hidd as I may have mentioned a time or two...that in itself is enough to give you some sleepless nights...some tightly wound individuals living throughout the alleys and by ways of this little town. Whatever faults I may find with it pales in comparison to the latest addition to my neighborhood...well actually two additions...one awhile back and one more recently. The two additions are not more than 10 steps from my door and their proximity to my house is now my number one...

So I was out riding shot gun in my friends car last nite. We were going along minding our business when out of the blue...or should I say the right hand side of us...a mini cooper came blasting past and did, what I refer to as, Sewing Up Traffic....you know...that quick and reckless darting from lane to lane with little regard for fellow road users. The fact that he came from the right side took us by surprise...so he nearly clipped our front fender...but it didnt slow him down a bit....off he...

Fun for all or Free for All?

There are lots of ways to have fun in Bahrain...you dont have to look hard or dig deep...as long as your willing to pay for it. Not much in life is fun...especially if its free...fun things are not usually free...which means that free things are not usually all that fun. So when I looked in the GDN today and saw this.... The BD15 million revamped Adhari Park threw open its gates with an offer of free rides for the next three days starting tonight. Visitors will just have to pay a minimal...
